Sitting in a science class the teacher once made a comment that water was the ultimate solvent. What he meant was that given time, there wasn't much that water couldn't wear away. I think gorges are a beautiful example of this. To think that the creek at the bottom of a gorge may once have been a creek running along the surface high above, but over centuries it carved its way into the earth, following the path of least resistance as it slowly carved it's way through the stone.
