When you're hiking Glen Gorge "backward" you have to remember to turn around to look at the waterfalls. But you also get to see the water disappearing from view as it falls to the gorge below.
When you're hiking the Watkins Glen you have two options. Start at the welcome center and hike up from the bottom. Up, 832 stone stairs, to the lot at the top of the gorge hike. Or, you start at the top and hike your way back down to the bottom. Of course, the disadvantage to "hiking it backward" is that you need to turn around to see the waterfalls. The advantage is that you get a different perspective on the gorge than most people. Like this beautiful image, I captured of glen creek disappearing under the bridge.
